The Perfect Gift Topper

I love wrapping presents.  Picking out wrapping paper is my favorite part of Christmas.   This year I made some really delightful bows, that also are pins.  that way you are giving two gifts!  It is a tedious process, but if you are detail minded this craft is for you.  I found this idea from
http://news.holidash.com/2010/04/23/mothers-day-corsage/

I bought the paper from the container store, which had a really nice selection.  The container store also had some great bows.  I especially liked this tinsel bow.

Make your own cakestand.

If you are a fellow resale store junkie and adorer of all things vintage, you know the dilemia of finding one singular plate that is beautiful.  Just make a cakestand doofus!  It is so easy.

Find a plate.

Find a candle stick

Roughen up the surfaces which will be glued

Buy epoxy

Glue the candlestick to the plate

Make a cake and use your new cakestand!

Tiny Hat Bachelorette Party!

So one of my very best friends just got married.  I threw her a tiny hat bachelorette party.  I made these great tiny top hats made of felt.  Well I think it goes without saying, but we looked amazing.

Before and After

I bought a futon from Ikea a few months ago.  I didnt like any of the cover Ikea offered, so I decided to make my own.  This is clearly not perfect, but it is a quick easy way to cover up and add some fun.

Before

After

I hemmed a piece of upolstry fabric that fit the mattress.  Then I attached velcro at 4 spots to keep the fabric on the futon.

Planting in Egg Shells

Here is a new idea in planting seedlings.  I read this tip in real simple and just had to give it a try.  My tomatoes and swiss chard did not do so well, but my nasturtiums flourished.  Here is a step by step guide to planting and growing seedlings in egg shells.

1. Start by saving your eggshells.  When using eggs try to keep the breaks pretty even.  When you have collected enough, place each half shell in an emptied carton.  Poke one hole in the bottom of each shell using a pin.

2.  Fill each shell half way with dirt.

3. Dampen soil with water.

4.  Place seeds in dirt.

5.  Cover with more dirt.

6. Water regularly and let grow.

7.  When the plants have grown, and its time to put them in the ground.  Place egg shells in dirt (the egg shells will decompose and enrich the soil.)

8.  Cover with more dirt.

9.  Water regularly and continue to watch them grow.

Happy Mothers Day!

I hope all those mothers out there had a wonderful day.  I sure hope my beautiful mother did.  Not to toot my own horn, but I put together some pretty cute mothers day gifts.  All it takes is a flower pot, ribbon tape, and a plant.  I chose ranunculus and polka dot ribbon.
